Course Contents Entry Requirements
 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of trade calculations and units for mechanical engineering trades Demonstrate knowledge of basic mechanics for mechanical engineering trades Demonstrate knowledge of fasteners used in mechanical engineering Demonstrate knowledge of safety on engineering worksites Shift loads in engineering installation, maintenance, and fabrication work Draw and interpret engineering sketches under supervision Demonstrate basic knowledge of engineering metals Select, use, and care for simple measuring devices used in engineering Select, use, and care for engineering dimensional measuring equipment Select, use, and care for engineering marking-out equipment Demonstrate basic engineering workshop skills under close supervision Perform basic fabrication operations under supervision Select, use and care for, engineering hand tools Select, use and maintain portable hand held engineering power tools Read texts for practical purposes Develop fabrication patterns for simple three-dimensional objects Lay out and mark off light fabrication shapes Cut, form and shape sheet metal Weld steel sections with the manual metal arc welding process in downhand positions Join metals with the oxyacetylene welding process Join metals using torch brazing and soldering Join metals with the resistance welding process Cut metals using manual thermal processes
  • nassemble work pieces in jigs (minor amendments include the use of manipulators)
 
  • Form III OR
  • Have successfully completed the foundation course OR
  • Experience acceptable to MITD
  • Minimum 16 years old
