Course Contents Entry Requirements
 
  • Weld steel structures with the manual metal arc welding process in downhand positions Join metals with the oxyacetylene welding process Join metals using torch brazing and soldering Join metals with the resistance welding process Weld steel to a general purpose industry standard with the manual metal arc welding process Cut metals using manual thermal processes Demonstrate and apply knowledge of safe welding procedures under supervision Demonstrate and apply knowledge of welding low carbon steel Demonstrate and apply knowledge of aluminium and stainless steel Communicate with clients
  • nassemble work pieces in jigs (minor amendments include the use of manipulators) Draw and interpret simple engineering drawings Perform basic First Aid Perform basic fire fighting Demonstrate knowledge of welding metallurgy Demonstrate workshop skills for mechanical engineering Demonstrate basic engineering workshop skills under close supervision Mechanically cut fabrication materials using powered machinery under supervision Perform calculations for the workplace Participate in groups and/or teams to gather ideas and information Apply ethics pledge within his/her workplace Hold a conversation with others Identify the implications of oral communication techniques Read texts for practical purposes Work in a diverse workplace Protect health and safety in the workplace
 
  • - Form III OR - Have successfully completed the Foundation Course, OR - Experience acceptable to MITD - Minimum of 16 years old
